Fool Her Once : A Brief Introduction To My Third Thriller

I am thrilled to say that Fool Her Once, my third novel, has been added to the list of my books on my author page on Goodreads — even though publication day is not due for a while. CamCat Books has scheduled Fool Her Once for publication in Spring 2022.  

If you’re not familiar with Goodreads, it’s the website frequented by some 90 million book lovers all over the world. The screenshot below shows how Fool Her Once appears on my author page. But wait, you say, how will you know if you want to read it? You don’t know what Fool Her Once is about. It doesn’t even have a cover yet. True, and given how the world of traditional publishing works, it probably won’t have a cover for a couple more months.

But, the plot has been pretty much in place since I decided to return to writing fiction about six years ago. Certainly, my female protagonist, Jenna Sinclair, was almost fully formed in my head when I answered these questions on my Goodreads Author Page.

Introduction to Fool Her Once

So, this is the gist of the story:

As a rookie tabloid reporter, Jenna Sinclair lands a major scoop when she finds Denny Dennison, the secret son of an executed serial killer. But the expose has devastating consequences for Denny, a young man, and his family.

Blaming herself for the tragic outcome, Jenna quits the world of cut-throat tabloid journalism, and runs from Denny and New York City to the bucolic North Fork of Long Island. Here she hides in marriage and motherhood with Zack King, a successful inn and marina owner.

More than 15 years later, with her life as wife and mother falling apart, Jenna decides she must make some changes. She returns to the city she loves, hoping to revive her career as an investigative reporter with the help of her former lover and editor, Ryan McAllister. 

But The Past Will Not Let Go

Almost immediately things go wrong when Ryan is brutally assaulted and left for dead outside Jenna’s NYC apartment building.

Jenna suspects Denny, the serial killer’s son. She fears that he has inherited his father’s psychopathic gene; and that he is still holding a grudge, still out for revenge.

Meanwhile, the cops zero in on her husband, Zack –who has his own secrets to protect –and who fears that his idyllic life on the North Fork is about to be shattered.

So, Jenna is left to track down Denny on her own — before he can harm her or her teenage daughter, Dollie.

Fool Her Once is set in pre-pandemic New York City and on the North Fork of Long Island against a backdrop that touches on the destructive world of sensational tabloid journalism.
