A Comeuppance For A Dastardly Device
The “dastardly” device in question is the sort of gadget that bestselling author, Karin Slaughter might allow to fall into the wrong hands in one of her dark thrillers; or that my antagonist, a tech-savvy Peeping Tom, might have used in my last crime thriller, Delusion. However, when Delusion was published twenty years ago we were barely aware of a future with cell phones, never mind smart phones with apps that would allow a partner or spouse ( even when in a different country) to remotely control your vibrator. Remembering Andrew — & One of Its Heroes
As I write this blog, Irma, Category 5 monster hurricane, is barrelling toward South Florida. Anyone in South Florida who was living there 25 years ago, like I was, no doubt has spent the last few days telling war stories about how they survived Hurricane Andrew — the last Category 5 hurricane to hit the US mainland — in August 1992. A medical study out of Denmark provided the best news of the week for me. Yes, you read that right. A medical study made the top spot — even though there was a lot of good news from which to choose (think: failure of Republicans’ grotesque efforts to pass a bill depriving 22 million Americans of health insurance; also the revelation by the new White House Communications Director, in profanity-strewn language, that “back (and front) -stabbing” is alive and well in the Trump White House.)
